Although not technically a symbol of freedom, The Colorado flag is now synonymous with Marijuana dispensaries. Image courtesy of burtmountain.com Under Colorado’s driver’s license point system, drivers accumulate points on their license for a variety of driving infractions. After getting a ticket—and paying for it or going to court to contest it, the courts submits information, including any penalties on your license to the Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV), where they assign the points to your license. These points last for seven years. When determining how much to charge for your insurance premium, insurers look at your driving record to find out if you have any points on your license. They adjust rates based on how many points are…
Due to budget cuts, Texas is the first state to institute the volunteer traffic enforcers program. Unfortunately, the word has only gotten out to the ranchers. Image courtesy of automobilemag.com More drivers in Texas are insured thanks in part to the Texas Department of Insurance’s TexasSure Vehicle Insurance Verification program. Despite this car insurance, premium rates at most of Texas’ top insurers continue to rise. TexasSure is an electronic database that matches vehicles registered in Texas with their insurance policy. All counties participate in the program. And the insurance department contended that more than 99 percent of all reported auto insurance policies are matched to the Texan vehicle they are associated with. On July 16, the department released updated information showing that the TexasSure program has helped reduce the number…

Three types of auto insurance fraud

Although the cost of the sledge hammer was more than Jenifer had in her account, she's well on her way to making her money back. Image courtesy of mnsu.edu Like it or not, car insurance fraud affects you. Car insurers spend billions a year paying for fraudulent claims and millions more attempting to identify insurance fraud, and they pass the cost on to you. There are various schemes under which car fraud is perpetrated. The most prevalent means are through fraudulent repair claims, slam-and-jam ‘accidents,’ and fraudulent claims for stolen vehicles. Most fraudulent repair claims occur when a vehicle was in an accident, and when fixing the car, the mechanic repairs parts that were not damaged in the accident and the claims are then submitted for all repairs done.…
Gerald has had his lucky cap ever since he was shot down over Berlin despite his family's assertions that the cap is, undeniably, not lucky at all. Image courtesy of seniorjournal.com Senior drivers are safer than previously thought, according to a recent study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The report, issued in IIHS’s Status Report, also found that senior drivers are holding onto their licenses longer. Whether this will affect their car insurance premiums remains to be seen. The institute said the trend bucked its own predictions made as recently as nine years ago, when it expressed concern about the risk of more seniors driving on the road. Anne McCartt, IIHS senior vice president and a report author, noted “If the crash trends of drivers 70 and older…
Not only did Farmers' reduction in rates save them a penny or two, but Bob and Anne were able to buy those fancy Farmers Insurance shirts with the savings. Image courtesy of Farmerscompanystore.com Now might be a good time to look at getting car insurance coverage through Farmers Insurance Exchange in California. On July 28, the insurer announced that it would drop most of its car insurance rates in California by an average of 14.5 percent. And if you’re an existing policyholder, you will receive a one-time 10 percent rebate, which will likely amount to about $50 per policyholder. The rebates and lower premium rates are being offered as part an agreement that the subsidiary’s parent company, Farmers Insurance Group, made with California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner (R). Poizner valued the entire rebate…

When to consider car rental insurance

"Funny, I was just on my way to the eye doctor." "Really? I was just on my way to honesty training. Here's my information." Image courtesy of trianglerentacar.com When you’re renting a car, you’re invariably asked: “Do you want rental insurance?” Depending on whether or not you carry car insurance at home, what level of insurance you have on your vehicle, and your credit card’s policies, the answer may be yes or no. However, you’re not required to buy insurance to rent a car. “When renting a car, many consumers purchase unnecessary insurance and end up wasting money. Meanwhile, other drivers inadvertently underinsure their rental car, placing themselves at risk,” Mary Jo Hudson, director of Ohio’s Department of Insurance said. Some fully-covered automobile insurance policies actually cover your…
The good news is, all three drivers were able to send their text messages seconds before the collision occurred. Image courtesy of brianleelaw.com Bread trucks, party busses, and big rigs can all leave you looking like the elephant man on a bad hair day if they hit you. This is why we have insurance, not just for the little dings and scrapes that are relatively trivial cosmetic marks on our car, but for the serious injuries that can sometimes happen when driving. There are almost as many types of insurance policies and plans as there are drivers, so it may get a little confusing when you go out to get insurance on that sweet new ride of yours. If you live in a…
