Car Insurance For A Volvo
A Swedish auto manufacturer founded in 1927, Volvo Car Corporation was acquired by Ford Motor Company in 1999 as part of its Premier Automotive Group. Original owner Zhejiang Geely Holding Group bought Volvo back from Ford in 2010. With approximately 2300 local dealers from 100 national sales companies around the world, the U.S. is Volvo’s largest market. Volvo sold an estimated 60,000 vehicles in the U.S. in 2010 ranging from SUVs to station wagons, sedans and compact coupes.
Because of the classic, block shape of the Volvo and the heavy duty build, Volvo vehicles used to be nicknamed tractors. It’s was this boxy style and shape, though, that helped give Volvo one of the highest safety ratings in the industry. Nowadays, Volvo has moved away from the boxy styles of the 70s and 80s and has made powerful turbocharged models of their popular vehicles while maintaining the safety standards the company is known for.
Volvo owners like to brag about the high mileage they are often able to achieve with their Volvos. One well-documented 1966 Volvo P1800 had been driven over 2.8 million miles and holds the Guinness World Record for most miles driven by a single owner in a non-commercial vehicle. The average age of a Volvo vehicle is said to be 19.8 years, second only to Mercedes-Benz. Thanks to its reliability, low damage estimates, and high safety ratings, Volvos aren’t the most expensive foreign autos to insure.
You won’t find a Volvo on any most expensive vehicle to insure list—it’s decidedly moderate to insure a Volvo.
